Silpada is a modern-day jewelry brand that has its roots in the one-time fad of jewelry parties. Jewelry parties were all the rage in the early 2000s. The concept was that a friend or acquaintance would invite you to their jewelry “party,” under the guise of just having a few drinks, snacks and a good time while browsing some jewelry pieces with no pressure to buy anything. While there, a representative from the jewelry brand would showcase some of the jewelry and go through a little routine while passing out a catalog.

The representative would mention that your friend would get a credit if you purchased something, and you’d also get a discount. You’d get a great piece of jewelry at a good price, but you might have done it more out of guilt than actual interest. It worked for Silpada though, despite changing hands in ownership and changing their business model a few times since then. They may not be hosting jewelry parties any more, but they’re still offering high-quality products that anyone would be proud to wear.

Silpada Review

What Sets Silpada Apart from Competitors?

Regardless of the different business plans and changes of ownership, Silpada has held to its core belief that beauty is a source of confidence, and that it is people’s differences that make them beautiful. And since no two women are the same, no products should be exactly alike. As such, Silpada uses its artisan jewelry to celebrate and honor people’s uniqueness, by furnishing it with handmade details and ensuring quality that’s built to last with no piece being identical.

Silpada collaborates with artisans from around the world to create fashion-forward, trend-setting jewelry that stands the test of time. Compared to other artisan designers, Silpada is able to sell their jewelry at reasonable, yet fair prices while using the best nickel-free .925 sterling silver.

It isn’t just silver that Silpada sells though. You’ll find 14k gold, Swarovski crystals, freshwater pearls, natural semi-precious stones and more — all with extraordinary craftsmanship.

Silpada Company Info

Started by two friends in 1997, Silpada sells high-quality silver jewelry products. Millions of women have enjoyed getting together and socializing while browsing their designs and still can today, despite the fact that Silpada operates differently than it did 20 years ago. Although the business model doesn’t revolve around in-person parties so much anymore, Silpada still allows loyal customers to be brand ambassadors and operate the same way as they did in the past.

Despite its business model changing, Silpada is dedicated to creating unique high-quality silver jewelry. Silpada has remained true to its origins by considering each customer a friend, and therefore promising the same high standards of quality.

So, what happened to that “party hosting” business model? It brought them loads of success, mostly by word-of-mouth marketing. To raise their presence in the jewelry industry, Avon bought Silpada for $650 million. At the time, there were over 30,000 sales representatives. Both the value and the number of sales representatives declined under Avon, however. So the original founders of Silpada repurchased the business for $85 million in 2013 and changed its business model to more align with the way people shopped.

In 2016, Richline Group acquired Silpada with the promise to continue its great reputation and honor the jewelry line’s history.

Silpada Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Beautiful pieces appeal to wide customer base
  • 1-year warranty
  • 60-day satisfaction guarantee
  • 30% discount for brand ambassadors
  • Free shipping

Cons

  • Not necessarily unique despite one-of-a-kind pieces
  • Complicated return process according to customer reviews
  • Can not try on items ahead of purchasing
  • Return shipping not free

Overall Silpada Review 3.5/5

Silpada still offers beautiful products, but since being acquired by the Richfield Group, the online reviews aren’t as favorable as they once were. While there was once an ability to purchase the products after trying them on in-person while socializing at a jewelry party, that opportunity isn’t as common unless you live near an ambassador. As such, consumers need to shop online and simply hope their purchase will look and fit just right.

Nonetheless, reviews seem to be highly positive from confident customers who have been loyal to the brand for years. Someone who knows their ring size and reads the product specifications should be quite pleased with what they receive. They should also know that they need to keep their receipt and original packaging in case they aren’t happy with a product, and be prepared for a somewhat detailed return process.
