David Roddenberry and James Fleming founded HealthyWage. The co-founders wanted people to create their weight loss program by offering cash, social motivation, and gentle peer pressure for people to lose weight.
They also found (and studies show) that people are more committed to a weight loss journey when their money is at stake.
Roddenberry had prior experience designing researched-based weight intervention programs for employers and consumers.
