If you live in pretty much any major city in the U.S you know that electric scooters have become a very popular method of transportation. Not only are they perfect for any age group, but they’re also a great way to save money on gas and protect the environment at the same time!

If you’ve considered purchasing your own scooter, Gotrax is a name you should consider. Here is a review of the Gotrax GXL v2 electric scooter to help you decide!

Gotrax GXL Electric Scooter Review

Gotrax is an affordable e-scooter brand that has been expanding their lineup and has come out with two new scooters that are perfect if you have a short commute.

I have the GXL v2 Commuter Scooter from Gotrax and love it! The original GXL had an electronic brake and a foot pedal that the rider would use for stopping or decelerating. GXL v2, however, replaces the electronic brake with a hand brake setup. Gotrax managed to reinforce the rear wheel fender but also added a new safety bolt that can be used to better lock in the e-scooter’s folding mechanism, which was strengthened and now works smoother for quick folding and unfolding.

Elsewhere, the GXL 2 retains the 36V battery pack used by the original GXL. It rides on 8.5-inch pneumatic tires and uses a 250V electric motor. The GXL V2 can hold a rider that weighs up to 220 pounds and when folded, the Gotrax GXL measures 15 inches x 44 inches x 6 inches which is pretty compact, so you won’t have a problem with taking it on the bus, subway, or even storing it in your car.

The Gotrax electric scooter can last for 9 to 12 miles on a single charge, which is more than enough for a short to medium daily commute. The top speed is supposedly 15.5 mph but I’ve been able to reach 19 occasionally, which, again, is just right for city cruising.

Gotrax is also one of the more affordable e-scooters out there. You can get the Gotrax GXL 2 e-scooter on Amazon for $499.99 from a handful of sellers. Moreover, Gotrax offers a “ride now, pay later” program that allows you to pay $27 per month with no downpayment.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Good distance on full charge
  • Very attractive price
  • Simple yet very stylish
  • Fantastic solution for rear brake
  • Good fit for short commutes
  • Amazing customer service

Cons:

  • No brake light
  • Could have added more data to the display

Overall Rating: 4.8/5

I love my Gotrax GXL v2. I take it to work, yoga, the beach, and everything in between. If you’ve been considering getting an e-scooter, I highly recommend this one. It ships within a couple of days and the customer service team is super responsive and helpful. Just be sure to travel within your local electric scooter law! Their slogan rings true; my Gotrax has made me truly enjoy my commute to work!
